Is Santa Coming to Visit? Free today only on kindle!

What Inspired Me
I grew up in a the city overseas (Hong Kong). When I was young I couldn't figure out Santa in department stores, Santa on T.V.,Santa at church, or even Santa in books? Who was this huge red and white fellow? I never figured it out until I was a teen. I asked my brother questions and he always had an answer even if he was completely wrong. I looked at the night sky on Christmas Eve to see if I could spot Santa with Rudolph. On top of it, I lived in a high rise so we didn't have fireplaces and chimneys...I didn't have that exposure or hadn't seen snow until I went to college in Massachusetts. My brother came up with a brilliant idea of taping our socks on the windows. Somehow, we always had presents under the Christmas tree even though it was a fake plastic one.

When I was in elementary school, my teacher said it was time to write Santa a letter. Each year, I wrote requesting a puppet...I never got what I wanted and I always received a toy tea set. I just figured that Santa was getting old or ran out of puppets.

Giving Thanks for Gobbles Reviews

My Reviews are in and I'm giving thanks to my wonderful crtics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Books That Sow: Strength, Character & Diversity, DBA, November 7, 2012
By Books That Sow: Strength, Character & Diversi... (Houston, TX) - See all my reviewsThis review is from: Gobbles and His Turkey Trick (Paperback)
Beatrix S. Taubunan is an excellent children's author and illustrator.

I just love the simplicity of her writing on paper, yet the plot is so intense, meaningful and carries such a strong message for children.

The illustrations are outstanding, colorful and mesh very well with the plot. I can just see myself right there in Gobble's world, so the children will too.

Children will love this story and feel Gobble's heart as he deliberately finds a way to remain alive and well. This time, the humans were outsmarted.

What a beautiful story for this time of year - Thanksgiving.

"Gobbles and His Turkey Trick" is definitely a page turner, and will keep small children entertained. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews

I am becoming a bigger fan of Beatrix Tambunan's work with every book and this one is even more fun than the last. Just when you think you're in for a sweet, simple story the author hits you with a funny line soon after Gobbles is born that had me rolling. Gobbles is very clever and throws the reader for a tofu loop that brought a smile to my face. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews

My New Book! Gobbles and His Turkey Trick

My new book, Gobbles and His Turkey Trick, is my newest children's book. I would like to say that I am not a vegetarian but I think turkeys are funny looking. My daughter gave me a lecture on how turkeys were not even served on Thanksgiving. Other foods originally served were duck, corn, and even clams. I find it fascinating that turkeys have such importance in our grocery's stores because of its popularity. It's funny because we wait for them to be fattened up so we can eat lean meat.

New Children's Book, "Jack The Pumpkin"

Happy October! I'm very happy to finish a small children's tale on "Jack O'Lantern". I never thought of doing a seasonal book but for some reason, I thought about changes and how positive changes can be. I figured that I should do some drawings and seeing that it is the season of pumpkins, I was inspired to do something Halloweenish. I hope you enjoy it! https://www.createspace.com/3632725

Moon Girl Helps Breast Cancer

This is a special edition in support of breast cancer research. My mother is a breast cancer survivor. My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer when I was only 8 years old and counts my blessings each day that my mother fought it and she is doing wonderfully today.

Due to my mother's illness, I fell into a high risk category for breast cancer candidates. I've had a mammogram since my 20s. I pay close attention to my health since I've become a mother too.

This disease is a serious disease. It affects thousands of women. Any funds that go to researching breast cancer helps deeper research to the prevention and a better cure. Please help support this cause.

A story inspired by the author's observation of her mother and aunt's relationship. The name of her book is a direct translation from "Wul Nyu" which is Korean for "Moon Girl".

A story of Moon Girl who made sure the moon shone brightly each night so night creatures could creep outside and see where they were going. There was another girl, her sister, Sun Girl. She made sure the sun shone brightly so all day creatures could stay away. So why did Moon Girl leave one day? What was she looking for? What did she discover? This is a story of self worth and valuable relationships. Discover the colorful journey with original illustrations. Moon Girl has the author's original colorful illustrations and chose the picture of Moon Girl journeying in her "moonmobile". Unlike her first book, "An Eagle Named Canary" which has felt pen drawings, The author's challenge making a decision on using watercolor pencils as her media. The book contains powerful messages of self worth and systematic relationships. This book is suitable for early learners and can be a learning tool for classroom discussions on social relationships and self image.

Remembering 911

11 years ago, I almost lost my mom and brother but luckily they were scheduled to go to the 10:00am flight on American Airlines to Los Angeles. I was 7 months pregnant and in the Boston office doing payroll. My co-worker said, "New York was hit!".  My former boss said we all had to evacuate the building.

Everyone in downtown was running and panicking. Cell phones were not working. The "T" wasn't running. Everything stalled except for the pubic uncertainty of what could happen next.

It wasn't easy for me to walk fast with a round tummy. I was worried about Boston and my husband and my future baby. I had thought about another attack. I was worried that if Boston was attacked, it would be all the schools. Floods of irrational thinking streamed through me.

I ran into my husband as I walked closer to home. I was relieved.

Looking back, I remembered the chaos but I also saw the nation become closer and more united. We became more cautious and found a purpose against terrorism. We needed to protect the present to strengthen the future.

I look at my daughter now who will soon be 11 years old. I count my blessings each day thank those who made it possible for all of us to live safer each passing day.

Smohkin' Dough...

Ricardo Carrera-Lowe and Stefan Doomanis

I love the entrepreneurial spirit and Los Angeles is the place to find the newest and the grooviest products and trends. In spite of  the tough economy, there is some serious dough to be made. Opportunities rises even in a recession. I had the pleasure of sampling some great smoked artisan bread from a new start up company, smohk (pronounced smoke). Wonderfully presented and displayed each weekend at Shelter Half at 161 South La Brea Ave.  by talented and creative founders, Ricardo Carrera-Lowe and Stefan Doomanis.  This savory product is only $9.00 a piece and all I can say is, you can't resist it! Delightfully sampled with handmade orange and lemoncello marmalades labeled Spirit; yet two other successful products created  by the founders and available on site.

Smohk bread  is specially and freshly crafted, therefore, you can get them on the weekend only which may change in the future due to purchase demands. Pre-ordering them on smohk.com is recommended. Also, check them out on https://www.facebook.com/SmohkLA. Seriously, let's "smohk and break some bread." You won't regret it.

Autism- A Spectrum of Hope

During my visit to Los Angeles, I had the privilege of knowing the founder of A Spectrum of Hope Foundation. http://www.spectrumofhope.org This wonderful organization helps families who have an autistic child and are eager to learn how to apply learning capabilities. Their mission statement:

"Our mission is to foster hope to families with young children affected by autism spectrum disorder. We provide Advocacy Grants to qualifying families and offer early intervention information so treatment can begin as soon as possible. "

The foundation promotes Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), a science that studies environmental events that affects behavior in a child. What is amazing about this science is that  it works and  I have see the positive results from this application. This is a Californian foundation but it is well worth a visit to the website as a starting point to those who don't know where to begin. Many American families are affected by a child with autism and must have the learning tools to help themselves in order to help their child. This is truly a great knowledge based foundation. Pass this information on to those who may benefit from this.

Independence is Confidence

How do you know if you are independent? It's when you feel good about yourself and have no fear. You have the right to say that you are self-confident. It's when you are willing to take a chance and hope for the best. It's when you are open-minded and think of all the wonderful things that will happen in your life. It is when you finally understand "ignorance is bliss". So why do some people doubt themselves and their ability to do better in their life? What has stunted their process to grow further? People are so focused on social acceptance. But it really doesn't matter what people think as long as you think about your happiness first. When others see that you are happy, they will naturally gravitate to you. There are no societal norms. Society is made of  people, people are not perfect. If you know this, then what is stopping you to becoming more confident? More independent from what other people are doing or thinking?

My daughter got on the plane without my husband and me and was accompanied on the airline. She is only 10 years old and visiting her aunt in Texas. She said she was so excited and happy to be on a new adventure. She wasn't nervous. She was incredibly positive. She called me when she arrived. She was excited about her summer in space camp. I'm real proud of her. It really made me think about how brave she was to travel alone to go on a journey she chose for herself. She was growing up.

People have to realize that we all must think of ourselves as children. We still have hope and we still can learn. We all can have new adventures. There is no age limit. Feel confident about yourself so you too can experience independence.

I Suck At Office Interviews

A new self-help book on Kindle called,"I Suck At Office Interviews." by B.S. Jobs caught my attention today. Now if you need some help during the interviewing process or if you just graduated from school, this is one informative yet entertaining guideline book. The good news it's not very long so you won't fall asleep. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0089PUFHG

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZmHmM-xNq_

Historically, I've had interviewing nightmares as a recruiter and hiring manager. It was truly sad when I believe that everyone has a home. But I couldn't hire some good people because another manager or client found something wrong with them. These candidates were, in fact, well qualified for the applied jobs. Unfortunately, people are people and if recruiters or hiring managers like your image or personality, that really is what makes you a winner.  Sure, you may have some qualifications with a 2.9 GPA but if you are personable and present yourself well, you'll pass. I have interviewed some great candidates with perfect GPAs from a prestigious college but there are some hiring managers who passed them up for the "cooler" ones. Seriously, it is so high school.

Being a self-published author has its high and low moments. High moments is writing and publishing the book, the lows is convincing the world that you are a great writer and selling your craft. The main journey is discovering the tools about how to get your book noticed. If you think you've tried everything, maybe you didn't. I stumbled on this discussion group in Kindle and a member presented a link which is what I'm doing with you. The best thing is it's FREE!!!I discovered all helpful resources and webinars. The Truth About Depression in Adults

There have been studies regarding bullying as a child leads to adult depression.  Many adults display anxiety and relationship issues do to a lack of self-esteem or self-image as a result of not being able to problem solve or at least not having to the knowledge to do so. Parents need to  be aware that communication is key to establishing  strong  relationships and problem solving for kids. When you are bullied as a child and you cannot process thoughts effectively on how to get out of a negative situation which leads you automatically believed that you are inadequate. Parents can go a long way in teaching about self-image or problem resolutions to their children.  A strong family bond is a platform to having  confident external relationships and a true sense of identity. Reading children's books that have messages are crucial to developing  group discussions. It was the reason why my book, Moon Girl, has multiple messages in hopes to have children ask questions about her self worth and reasons why she left her post, provoking emotions and thoughts about themselves. It is great to see anti-bullying laws in both the US and Europe but it will take some time to see if how effective it will be when implementing those rules in schools. Here is a research document of  how childhood bullying leads to adult depression.

Signs of Unhealthy and Healthy Self-Esteem

I found this article from Kids Health and it's one of the reasons why I wrote my children's book. I want children to learn that they bear gifts to this world and have talent. Lack of self-esteem starts when you're a child. If you're an adult with a lack of self-worth, this may help you understand this issue stems from the beginning stages of your life.

Signs of Unhealthy and Healthy Self-Esteem

Self-esteem fluctuates as kids grow. It's frequently changed and fine-tuned, because it is affected by a child's experiences and new perceptions. So it helps to be aware of the signs of both healthy and unhealthy self-esteem.
Kids with low self-esteem may not want to try new things and may speak negatively about themselves: "I'm stupid," "I'll never learn how to do this," or "What's the point? Nobody cares about me anyway." They may exhibit a low tolerance for frustration, giving up easily or waiting for somebody else to take over. They tend to be overly critical of and easily disappointed in themselves.
Kids with low self-esteem see temporary setbacks as permanent, intolerable conditions, and a sense of pessimism prevails. This can place kids at risk for stress and mental health problems, as well as real difficulties solving different kinds of problems and challenges they encounter.
Kids with healthy self-esteem tend to enjoy interacting with others. They're comfortable in social settings and enjoys group activities as well as independent pursuits. When challenges arise, they can work toward finding solutions and voice discontent without belittling themselves or others. For example, rather than saying, "I'm an idiot," a child with healthy self-esteem says, "I don't understand this." They know their strengths and weaknesses, and accept them. A sense of optimism prevails.

Self-Confidence Creates Positive Results

It doesn't matter how old you are or where you are in your career, what matters is you have to feel good about yourself to produce positives results in anything you do. You could be creating a new product, new image, a company...whatever it is, it is crutial to keep the faith! If you don't think you're good enough you are bound to fail because the negative attitude will show in the end result. Nothing will be productive. It doesn't matter what you do, just do what you want to do...simply because it makes you happy. Happiness leads to productivity.

Here are 6  tips to help gain confidence:

1) Do what you want to do- There is nothing more negative that doing something you despise. You are worth what you put in.

2) Don't surround yourself with negative people- You know that saying "Misery likes company." It's true. People feel that you should hang out with those who have similar problems and have vent sessions. The problem is that these "support groups" tend to show that you are not alone and validate your issues. But you must realize that the entire group is stuck and trying to figure a way out of their misery. If you can acknowledge that you need help, then you are allowing yourself to heal. You can make good choices. When you choose to be around positive people, you are choosing to hear good thoughts which lead to positive examples.

3) Like yourself- Do you like looking in the mirror each morning? If not, change your hair, your make up, your clothes, and your mind.  You have to come to terms that you are stuck with yourself  and if you don't like what you see,  you have the power to change yourself both internally and externally.

4) Exercise- Any kind of physical activity produces endorphines. It doesn't matter what kind of  exercise. Just do it. Walk to the grocery store if you're stuck.

5)  Eat well.- Don't overdo the carbs and fatty foods. Eat your veggies. A balance diet equals balanced minds.

6) Listen to positive mood music- Music creates a mood. If you listen to spiritual sounds, upbeat music or lyrical music that has good messages, it really changes your emotion to positive behavior. You are also  releasing negative energy.

I felt that I needed to communicate this because theses actions helped my productivity. Let's face it, we are not in a perfect world so you can only make it perfect for you. It is the journey to making something valuable.  In my case, I decided to write and illustrate children's book because it made me happy. Because of happiness, I gained confidence to do a second book. You can see it at http://www.moongirl.webs.com/. It is a different direction from what I do professionally but it opened me up to a different world and I am enjoying the process. So if I can do  it, what is stopping you? Keep the faith.

2012 Leaping Up

2012 is the year that everyone thinks that an apocalyptic change will take place. Has it started already?
The good news is recorded unemployment rates have gone down and the stock market is finally creeping up. What does this mean for those who haven't been working for a few years? The word that comes to mind is opportunity.

Just look around you, there is something happening even if you don't realize it. Don't rely on stats alone, you have to hear what people are saying. Networking is something you must do  even if you feel that you have nothing to contribute to a business. You have to keep it in mind that you are meeting to deal with people not commodoties. People are humans who have feelings like empathy. I'm almost positive that the person you encounter share a commonality with you even if it means both your kids play basketball. You'll be surprise that you make talk about what you do but eventually, you drift to a more personable moment. If you are one of those who just stick to one topic, don't be surprise that your conversation dwindles or just get interrupted.

Relationships are key to any successful transacation. If you want something from someone, you have to establish trust. Trust is something that is earned through time, creating opportunity for success. Referrals are done through relationships. It doesn't matter if you are using social media  or getting your morning Starbucks latte.  What are you waiting for? Go and makes connections and create opportunity.
